Save Pune Tekdi Drive – ( Environment VS so called Development )

Sometime back I blogged about the dispute about Paud Road – Senapati Bapat Link Road from the Pune Hills. The supporters of the road had declared victory following a decision from a lower court. However the matter is still very much open for debate.

Here’s an upate on the protests planned – “As part of the Save Tekdi Campaign, a human chain will be formed from Nal Stop on Karve road and down Law College road between 10 am and 11 am on September 3. After 11 am, there will be a rally to Kamla Nehru Park. The campaign is to save the green cover at SNDT-Law college tekdi which is in danger due to the proposed Balbharti-Paud road.”

    Hello,

I came to know about this website from a friend but do not know much about your activities.

Can you send me information about successful campaigns done by people involved in this activity? Have you been able to actually save hills?

Do you look after hills around Pune or in the areas being newly developed such as Hinjewadi?

There is a project called Silicon City after Marunji village near Hinjewadi on the road that I think goes to Talegaon. This project has multiple phases. During the first phases, they are developing plot in on the barren land which is legally converted. This is good, and there is no problem there.

However, in their phase5, they are planning to “develop” adjoining hill which is currently completely covered with nice green trees. The developers are planning to convert at least half of the hill into residential plots… If no action is taken, this beautiful hill is going to turn into concrete jungle pretty soon..

Can you do something about it???

Can one find out if the government has actually given permission to the developer to cut the trees on the hill and turn the hill into residential layout? It seems pretty unlikely given the awareness among the citizens these days that the government has given permission blatantly to convert a hill into residiential area… I would really like that we are able to do something about it and save this beautiful hill.
