Just browsed through PmtPune.org, the new official website of the Pune Municipal Transport (PMT). The site is impressive. Kudos to everybody involved in creating the site.
Designing a website is not a big deal these days, but making it easy to use and providing useful data and functionality, surely is. Especially as most PMT staff would be computer illiterate.

There’s lots of other useful data and no empty sections.
The BRT project has got a bad name in recent times but BRT buses make the site look good. BRT bus images flash across all pages while the other 99% of run down tin cases that are PMT buses are not shown.
The site actually is too good for PMT’s current standards. Viewing the website, even a resident of a developed nation used to great public transport systems might get fooled into thinking that he/she can use PMT while in Pune. If you have been to Pune, you would know that is pretty much impossible.
Hopefully the new website is a sign of good things to come for PMT and public transport systems in Pune.
I also hope the software companies haven’t charged some exorbitant amount for the web development and maintenance. I guess old world govt. officials could be easily made to think that it’s rocket science and worth millions.
The site is well designed but here are a few things I found amiss –
- Page title is not informative and stays the same for all pages. Search engines will not be kind to the site.
- No Favicon image that will be displayed in tabs on Firefox and IE7.
- The site provides for ad spaces. But it’s highly unlikely that PMT would be able to sell that space. So best option is to get the site on to Google Adsense or similar network.
PmtPune.org needs to learn from the egovpmc.com experience. EGovPmc.com the supposed e-governance initiative of the Pune Municipal Corporation has been a miserable failure as the site is down very often and there seems to be zero participation from the PMC administration. The site is also rarely updated and compalaints are never responded to. I have earlier blogged about how the egovpmc and pmcelection.com sites were messed up during election time.
PMTPune.org looks and feels much better. However great care needs to be taken to keep PMT staff interested and involved in the project, becasue if they stop cooperating, PmtPune.org could be another failed venture like egovpmc.

Do you know that you raise these problem in the consumer court, provided you have the proof, (because according to consumer rights, you have the right to get a reasonable level of service, when you are paid for it). Get all the people who were effected, get the tickets/pass you all used, and go to the consumer court in pune (i think its in the building next to alka theatre). file a complain and ask for a compensation. Highlight the problems you have mentioned, also add all the inconvenience, trauma, scolding at the office, losing the days pay, financial trouble at family front.

1)I am a student on pune but I feel that the frequency of busses running between pune station & southwestern part of pune viz. vinutai college,dhayari,DSK & etc is very less.

The PMT should make a chart & paste it in the interiors of their buses saying:
” LADIES SEATS STRICTLY FOR LADIES ONLY !
Rs. 300/ – FINE OR JAIL, IF RULES NOT FOLLOWED.”

I use PMT and PCMT for travel quite often. I found the Bus service very efficient. The buses especially the new ones are very clean. the staff is very humble with nice sense of humour which all the times try to keep road rage and Commuters rage down. I find that PMT has covered almost all nook and corner of the city. PMT drivers do drive very carefully. The staff is always helpful to Old and handicapped and they are very courteous and respectful to Ladies.
I feel The staff in spite of being hard pressed against hot tempers of commuters and driving through the hazardous Pune traffic is very cool and is always with a smiling face. Most of the complaints which I see on this forum appear to be due to Population explosion rather than the PMTStaff. I am yet to see a staff who is not courteous. Hats off to PMT and PCMT.

I m a passenger of PMT. I respect your service but it need to improved.
We all passenger feel our bus should be clean, well maintained. There are many bus which seats are break downed, coaching is teared out, seats are full of dust, No cleaning arrangments are there for PMT bus.
Now I m travelling from Swargate to Kalayaninager bus which is always dusty, and its last window glass of seafty door is breaked and we are travelling with all these things.
I belive in business if you people are able to provide BRT service then why PMT is not able to maintain ordinary bus

I am student I am travelling from bhosari to corporation from 2003 and I am using your PMT student pass but from 3 to 4 days bhosari bus stop changed & this change you did not mentioned clearly theirfore so many problems created conductors did not allows to sit pass holders from middle busstop & forcefully told to leave bus at bhosari police station
If you take fullmoney for pass for travelling in pmt bus in any route then why you not give satisfactory service to passengers & if not able to give this service then please close this pass system & we are ready to cut the ticket
